One of Many Reasons.

I have lived in Texas for most of my adult life, with stints in Hawaii, Cali, Missouri... ok I like to live in different places. But Texas is my home, yet it is time to bounce. Yesterday Sgt. Jeffrey Cotton of the Bellaire Texas Police Dept. was found not guilty for shooting a black man. Sadly this is nothing new in Texas. The funny thing was that the young man that was shot was Robbie Tolan, 23. They were returning home early Wednesday Dec 28th 2008 from a Whataburger run. Sgt. Cotton approached them as part of a stolen vehicle investigation. The problem -- the vehicle was not stolen, another Officer typed in the wrong license plate number. The family maintained the officer did not initially properly identify himself either, they thought that they were being car-jacked. The situation escalated quickly as other family members came out of the house. The sergeant fired three shots. One of them hit Tolan. Imagine this happening to your son or daughter, getting shot in front of their home in their vehicle after a late night burger run. Tolan's father, Bobby Tolan won a World Series in 1967 with the St. Louis Cardinals. He may move. But now after all of this the Officer is found not guilty...When you see a good young man of color who was not committing a crime, who broke no laws and in his own vehicle in front of his own home and shot down like a dog, and a jury will allow that cop to escape, then wonder why I want to leave this country...
